Susie and Josh Neimark created the concept of
Sunny & The Chocolate Dog in June 1998. The
Neimarks had begun to notice how computers were quickly
becoming more prevalent in the day to day lives of children,
and they endeavored to develop a new line of products
that would be both entertaining and educational while
keeping up with the demands of a new technology driven
generation. The choice of whom or what their model would
be based on was an easy one. Susie and Josh knew that
their very own dogs would be the foundation for their
revolutionary new approach to stimulate both the hearts
and minds of children everywhere.
The books’ main characters,
Sunny and The Chocolate Dog, are based upon Josh
and Susie’s pets: Sunny,
a yellow Labrador, and her little sister, Cloudy,
who is a chocolate Lab. Soon after the arrival of the
little chocolate Lab into their home, the Neimarks noticed
a true sibling bond between the two dogs, as well as
how loved the pups were by everyone who met them, especially
children. Susie and Josh came up with the idea to develop
a line of interactive products that would educate children
not only about dogs, but also about day to day experiences
and encounters that both the children and the dogs might
have in common. The books were created to teach and
amuse children as they read about the events in the
dogs’ daily lives. By reading about Sunny
and The Chocolate Dog's various escapades and how
the dogs react and cope in different situations, the
children actually go on the adventure with the dogs,
and they all learn valuable life lessons along the way.
In addition to the publication of the first series of
books, a variety of products and services focusing on
children, interactivity, and the Internet will be implemented.
